Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Creating the right conditions for learning allows all students to learn. Getting the conditions right is the main goal for the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. We provide educational interpreters, teachers of the deaf, and audiologists to school districts within Lucas County and surrounding areas.

Our program is designed to meet the individual needs of the deaf and hard of hearing students within their language mode of American Sign Language (ASL), Transliterating, or Pidgin Sign English (PSE). Our licensed Educational Interpreter staff allows each student access to participate, feel included, be involved, and integrated into a general education classroom setting.

Our Teachers of the Deaf collaborate with the IEP team members to create the least restrictive environment for the hearing impaired student(s). This includes regular consultation with the team members and students. Direct and/or indirect services are provided based on individual needs.

Along with the Educational Team, the Teachers of the Deaf, the Audiologists, and the Educational Interpreters are an integral part of the Multi-Factored Evaluation (MFE) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) team.
