The ALC philosophy is holistic. We address the emotional, behavioral, physical, and social growth as well as the academic attainment of every student. Students and staff work on a daily basis to achieve and emulate our building-wide expectations of BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, and BE SAFE. Our goal is to provide students with the academic and behavioral skills to become successful throughout their educational careers.
All students enrolled at the ALC are identified as having special needs with a primary identification of emotional disturbance. This entitles them to individualized accommodations designed to aid in their educational success. On the continuum of special education options defined by the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce, students referred to the ALC have been identified as being best served in a separate educational facility. All referrals are made through the student's home district.
Our goal is to assist all students in acquiring the necessary emotional and behavioral skills to return to their home schools. Students progress through a tiered level system demonstrating their ability to accept greater responsibility for their actions. As students progress through the levels, they earn more privileges. Progress is monitored in several ways including periodic case reviews, school team meetings, and a daily goal sheet.
